‘3780’ was the subject of a $100K+ restoration in
Vancouver, B.C. by its fastidious German owner in the
mid-90s. The car has covered merely 5000 miles in
the interim, and is certified today with 66,000
original miles. It is liveried in a very attractive
Sherwood Green with Suede Green Interior, fitted with
the Borg-Warner 3-spd. automatic transmission, the
optional high compression (9:1) cylinder head, and
elegant sliding sunroof.

Features include:
·        XK 3.8 litre, 6-cylinder DOHC engine, rated 220
bhp
·        BORG-WARNER 3-speed automatic transmission
·        DUNLOP 4-wheel disc brakes
·        BURMAN power-assisted steering
·        Telescoping BLUEMELS steering wheel
·        Electrically-operated Intermediate Speed Hold
switch (Jaguar-patented)
·        Twin veneered fold-away picnic tables for rear
seat passengers
·        Locking center magazine cabinet between the
tables with “Boudoir” clock
·        Black-lit dash panel illuminating Smiths white-
on-black dials
·        Dual petrol tanks, operated by dash mounted
selector switch
·        Dual glove boxes, three cigar lighters, four
ashtrays
·        VAUMOL CONNOLLY leather
·        WILTON carpets

3780 was among the last of its breed, a late-
production example manufactured on January 11th,
1961. Destined for North America via the works'
Personal Export Delivery scheme, it was collected on
February 28th by Ms. A.B. Smith, reputedly the wife of
the Attorney General of Canadian province British
Columbia. Little is known about its subsequent early
history until the 1990s when it was comprehensively
and exquisitely restored while in the ownership of
Otto Lohmeyer, a wealthy and exacting collector of
fine classic motorcars including a Bentley S2, a
Mercedes 300 and a Jaguar Mark X as well.

Between 1991 and 1994, Mr. Lohmeyer spent
Cdn$108,000 restoring the vehicle to virtually new
condition. First the mechanical refurbishment,
including engine, drivetrain, suspension, brakes, etc.
was overseen by Cecil Wishart at XK Motors, a facility
highly regarded by Jaguar club members in the
Pacific Northwest. After which the bodywork, interior
and assembly was undertaken by Tony Pereira,
proprietor of Iberica Auto. Mr. Pereira is a talented
craftsman who left Portugal for Germany as a young
man, and then trained by Mercedes Benz at their
factory restoration headquarters in Stuttgart.

The body panels were removed from the chassis, and
completely stripped to bare metal, repaired with
steel and lead materials, all butt-welded. Mr. Pereira
reports that the frame was not rusty, but was
nevertheless renovated and coated in epoxy primer.
The coachwork was finished with Standox paint from
Germany and the chromework is flawless.  Inside, the
glamorous interior was renewed with fresh Wilton
carpets, correct ‘mouse-hair’ headliner and
impressive burl walnut veneer woodwork, its grain
mirrored left-to-right, properly inlaid as original – the
execution of which is to the highest standard
imaginable. And LOTS of it! The Connolly leather
upholstery appears to have been restored
sympathetically, retaining some degree of its original
patina.

The result was a stunning achievement.

By the end of the decade, Mr. Lohmeyer had fallen ill
and passed away. Purchased from the estate
liquidation, the next and most recent owner of 3780
became Raymond O’Brien of Marblehead,
Massachusetts, an active member of the Jaguar Club
North America with 3 other cats in his stable.

Mr. O’Brien has proudly displayed this fantastic car at
various club events since its acquisition in 2000.
Winner of numerous First Place Awards and twice
Best of Show, this Jaguar remains both striking and
immaculate.

Equipped with expertly concealed CD-stereo and
accessory badge bar, the original set of tools (hidden
in each of both front door panels – including a grease
gun!) and jack is provided with the car, as is the
Owners Manual, Workshop Manual, and factory Parts
Catalogue. Also included is a document book with the
restoration invoices, a car cover and the Jaguar-
Daimler Heritage Trust heritage certificate.
